Fear Friends,
Welcome to the last month of the 2010s. I hope you make the most of it.
If you’re holiday shopping, the Get Afraid Journal would make a great gift.
To help others find our weird little book, consider leaving a review on Amazon. It’d be kind of you to do so.
In case you’ve never left a rating, I’ve added a quick how-to at the bottom.
For any new subscribers, my name’s Jed and if you want to get in touch, hit reply.
💻 My First Novel
The goal for National Novel Writing Month was 50,000 words. After many early mornings and late nights I was able to hit 50,021 words in Rogue Logistics.
It’s a story of brave employees, swarming delivery drones, and a huge pile of buttery biscuits. I’m aiming for a mix of Carl Hiaasen and Janet Evanovich.
My greatest daily word count was 4,248 on the day before Thanksgiving. My fewest was 0 words on 11/17. My other worst day was 11/15. I only wrote six words, “Mr. Motts rolled out of bed.”
The NaNoWriMo experience taught me the power of writing habits, breaking a project into parts, and the freedom of a terrible first draft.
I also found value in:
Scrivener — Writing Tool.
WordHippo — Thesaurus.
Drafts — App for writing on my phone.
Hoopla — Digital streaming service for library patrons. Perfect for taking breaks with, Watchmen and Locke & Key.
The next part of the creative process is my favorite. Forget about the whole thing and come back with what I hope is a fresh perspective.
— Jed
⭐ One Useful Thing
Immersive activities are a great way to take your mind off of things. Reading, writing, art, hobbies, or entertainment. Trying something new can be stressful though if you have trouble with uncertainty.
Is it any good? Is it gonna be fun? Is it worth it?
Professional Researcher, Keith Monaghan does most of the work for you. Keith’s One Useful Thing is, “A weekly newsletter of well-designed and helpful things.”
Some of my favorite issues:
A Good Movie To Watch — Handpicked, highly-rated streaming movies.
Libby — A free app for borrowing library ebooks and audiobooks.
Hemingway Editor — Make your writing bold, clear and easy to read.
