Try It for the Story
Ideas to spark creativity and inspire adventure
👻 Explore a different reading level. I just finished Serafina and the Black Cloak. It’s a creepy novel about a young girl and a mysterious figure that consumes children. I thought it was YA, but it’s actually intended for Grades 3-5, 6-8. Maybe give Dr. Seuss another spin?
🗣️ Read to someone aloud. Share an interesting passage. Get really into it. Try accents? I hated reading in school, because I didn’t like my voice and I felt like I was pronouncing everything wrong. And yet somehow, I have a podcast where I read to strangers.
✉️ Send your next message with typos. Don’t correct them. Don’t send an apology. Type fast, leave somehting wrong and hit send. Autocorrect tries to fix everything, but everything doesn’t need be fixed.

🥴 Finish it
I’ve been having trouble finishing personal projects lately. The problem is a combination of fear, perfectionism, and excuses.
Right now, I have several projects in the works.
There’s a rough draft of my first novel, Rogue Logistics. I’m ready to start self-editing, but it’s such a huge project. I don’t know where to start.
I’ve also been developing a new book called, Teddy Lipkin’s Half-Empty Bucket List. It’s inspired by my love of Eeyore, The Grinch, and Debbie Downer.
Remember when I told you about my virtual reality podcast episode?
It’s an in-depth look at an interactive exhibit I stumbled upon at the First Division Museum. Keep an eye on your podcast feeds.
That was October. I still haven’t released it. Sorry! 😬
It’s almost done, but I’ve been avoiding the final touches. I had a guest and I want them to sound amazing. I had hoped my really bad episode would’ve broken the perfectionism curse, but it didn’t.
I also need to approve the Get Afraid Journal on IngramSpark for wider distribution. My hardcopy proofs were a little off and I’m not exactly sure how to fix it.
Last week, I collected some tasks I’ve been avoiding:
Dread List
☐ Approve IngramSpark
☐ Change water filter
☐ Get a referral
☐ VR Episode
☐ Tooth pain
☐ Sort mail
☐ Find accountant
I checked a few items off, but I haven’t remedied the underlying issues.
I don’t have any answers at the moment. I just wanted to let you know if you’re sitting with unfinished business, you’re not alone.
